Book Review: Undisputed

Anybody who's read A Lion's Tale: Around The World in Spandex, knows full well the kind of journey that Chris Jericho has been on to make his way into the WWE. Anybody who's read Jericho's previous book knows full well that he teases us with his WWE debut, but we never get that far.

Enter Undisputed: How to Become World Champion in 1, 372 Easy Steps. Anybody who is a wrestling fan must read this book. It has just as much heart, sincerity and humor as his previous effort, with two great forewards written by Mick Foley and yes, Zack Ryder.

I won't give away too much of the book on here, since I want to encourage people to buy it and read it, but I will say that Jericho's initial road in the WWE was not easy. With great candor, he explains the challenges and the trials he had when he first arrived from WCW. He explains his relationships with Triple H, Vince McMahon, Chyna and The Rock. There are humorous stories of him meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wayne Gretzky and a great story about meeting Guns and Roses frontman Axl Rose.

Also, and I know many people may skim over this, Jericho covers a lot about Fozzy, especially during his two year hiatus away from the WWE from 2005-2007. I'd recommend reading this, as some of the stories during this time have to be read to be believed.

Jericho also speaks on fatherhood, on his marriage, on the personal turmoils in his life, such as the death of his mother and his great friend Eddie Guerrero, alongside his professional burnout in a business that he devoted much of his life to. Everything is told in true Jericho fashion, with honest candor and spatterings of humor that are characteristically Jericho.

As well, Jericho's book marks the first time that anybody in the pro wrestling business -- more or less under the WWE umbrella, although he is gone right now -- has written an in-depth account on the Chris Benoit tragedy and how he handled such a devastating blow to the industry and grieved the loss of his great friend and mentor. If there is any part of the book that any fan needs to read, it is this.

So, in closing, Jericho's Undisputed is a tremendous follow-up to A Lion's Tale. Anybody who is a wrestling fan should have this in their collection. It is that damn good.
